Cat Power is a short film about a young woman who, after a stressful evening with her dysfunctional family, rescues a cat and has an unexpected encounter with its owner.
Stacy Goldate wrote the script after she rescued a cat late one night. The cat came to her when she meowed. The owner was an eccentric guy and her meeting with him led her to ask the question "What if....?"
Director Craig A. Colton loved the idea, had more ideas of his own, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, they were in pre-production on their first short film collaboration together.
The husband and wife team launched Deranged Squirrel Productions, turned their home into a production office, set, post house, and now distribution center, as Cat Power has taken off like a bat (or rather, cat) outta hell.
Cat Power is the result of the hard work of more than 50 people. It was shot with the Arri Alexa and lenses from Panavision, and it all centers around an adorable cat named Charlie.
Craig and Stacy are busy writing the next incarnation of Cat Power, a prequel to the short.
